Well Vision Exams

Come In And Get The Best Eye Exam in The Enfield Area

Regular examinations are the key to maintaining healthy eyes and comfortable vision. Many eye problems are not accompanied by blurred vision. Patients with early stages of glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration often have no symptoms. Children with vision problems frequently don’t complain because they’ve always seen that way. Eye exams can also detect signs of systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis as well as ocular side effects from drug therapies such as plaquenil and tamoxifen.

Exams in Enfield CT Involve More Than a Prescription For Eye Glasses & Contact Lenses.

Vision is a very complex process that requires many structures to function properly in order to obtain clear, comfortable vision. A variety of tests may be necessary to assess the health and proper function of the eyes including:

  • Medical and ocular history identifies your current visual complaints and potential risk for eye problems.
  • Visual Acuity tests your current vision at distance and near.
  • Color vision tests your ability to see color normally. Color vision defects are usually inherited but can be acquired in ocular disease.
  • Depth perception tests your ability to combine the images from both eyes into a single 3-dimensional view. Pupillary reaction tests neurological function. Eye co-ordination-assesses how well your eyes move together. Peripheral vision tests your general ability to see objects outside of the spot where you are directly looking.
  • Refraction measures the refractive state of the eye to help determine the need for glasses
  • Accommodative response measures your ability to change focus from distance to near
  • Keratometry measures the curvature of the cornea to fit and monitor contact lens wear, assess refractive surgery candidates, and monitor corneal disease.
  • Autorefraction measures the refractive state of the eye with infrared light and topography at the same time.
  • Tonometry measures the pressure of the fluid of the eye, your IOP. Don’t worry, we use I-Care, no more “eye-puff” or drops for glaucoma test!
  • Ocular health examination uses various lenses and instruments to examine the structures of the eye including the lids, cornea, lens, and retina, checking for signs of ocular and systemic diseases such as dry eye, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, and hypertension.

If any medical problems are discovered, our expert eye care staff and optometrists will provide further testing and medical eye care.

Additional Vision and Eye Care Testing Available:

  • Threshold visual field testing measures the sensitivity of your peripheral vision and is used in glaucoma management and identification of neurological or vascular problems.
  • Anterior segment photography documents conditions on the front portion of the eye including the iris, sclera, cornea, conjunctiva and lids.
  • Fundus photography documents conditions in the posterior part of the eye behind the iris including the retina, macula, optic nerve, and vitreous. It also allows stereo photography of the optic nerve for use in glaucoma monitoring.
  • Pachymetry measures ultrasonically the corneal thickness ofr glaucoma suspects, refractive surgery patients, and patients with corneal diseases.
  • Many more under Technology section.
